Washington University – St Louis established one of the country’s first adult bone marrow transplant programs

In 1980, the Washington University – St. Louis was established recruiting Dr. Geoffrey P. Herzig to build the transplantation initiative within the division.

The program established one of the country’s first adult bone marrow transplant programs with its first recorded transplant performed in 1982.

Today, the program is among the world’s largest. In 2011, they reached a significant clinical achievement, completing its 10,000th transplant on September 4.
