The Priestley Medal was awarded to George S. Hammond
In 1976, the Priestley Medal was awarded to George S. Hammond by the American Chemical Society “to recognize distinguished services to chemistry,” the Society’s most prestigious award.
A distinguished chemist, Hammond was a leader in the field of photochemistry and was widely credited with creating the discipline of organic photochemistry. He was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1994.
