On Jul. 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. Prior to ADA, it was legal to discriminate against people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local governmentメ programs and services.
