The Cancer Research Institute provided seed funding for the first clinical trial of interferon alpha in 14 cancer patients – the first human testing of a biological therapy for cancer – conducted by Jordan U. Gutterman at MD Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, now known as MD Anderson Cancer Center.
