Rebecca Lee Crumpler became the first African American woman in the U.S. to earn an M.D. degree
In 1864, Rebecca Lee Crumpler graduated from the New England Female Medical College and becomes the first black woman to receive an M.D. degree.
Her Book of Medical Discourses for women and children was published in 1883, one of the very first medical publications by an African American.
