On Mar. 2, 2009, the Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) received National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. Hollings’ mission is to reduce the cancer burden in South Carolina and nationally through innovative research, exceptional education and training, multidisciplinary patient care, statewide cancer prevention programs, and progressive public policy transformation.

The HCC was formally established in 1993 and named for former U.S. Senator and South Carolina Governor Ernest “Fritz” Hollings, without whose support the formation and ongoing success of the Center would not have been possible. The Hollings Cancer Center continues to honor Senator Hollings’ legacy of public service, serving our culturally and socio-economically diverse state.
