On Dec. 22, 1998, Washington University – St. Louis researcher Jeffrey I. Gordon, MD and colleagues developed a mouse model of prostate cancer. The transgenic mouse model of metastatic prostate cancer developed was 100% penetrant in multiple pedigrees.

This model indicated that the neuroendocrine cell lineage of the prostate is exquisitely sensitive to transformation and provided insights about the significance of neuroendocrine differentiation in human prostate cancer.
