Africa faced 470 million COVID-19 vaccine shortfall in 2021
On Sept. 16, 2021, the WHO reported that the continent faced almost 500 million doses short of the global year-end target of fully vaccinating 40% of its population. The COVAX Facility, the global platform to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, was forced to slash planned deliveries to Africa by 25% this year, due to global supply shortages and export bans.
