On Aug. 28, 2017, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued policy stating that newborns should routinely receive hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.

The recommendation aligned with that of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The number of new cases of HepB infection had decreased by more than 90% since the introduction of hepatitis B immunization in 1982.
