On Jun. 1, 2021, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled a new type of public-private partnership that enables investments using venture capital practices.

Through this partnership, BARDA intends to provide GHIC with a minimum of $50 million over five years with potential for up to $500 million over 10 years. GHIC will launch a global health security fund with matching capital from other investors.
