On Nov. 28, 2017, surgeons at University of Washinton Medicine in Seattle announced they had performed the first liver transplant in the Pacific Northwest involving a warm blood-perfusion device to transport the organ between donor and recipient to transport the organ between donor and recipient.

UW Medical Center was one of seven sites in the United States participating in a clinical trial of the device, TransMedics’ Organ Care System.
