On Feb 25, 2008, the Pacific Northwest Research Institute changed its name to Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute (PDRI).

By keeping ‘Pacific Northwest’ in its name, the Institute continued to pay homage to its 52-year history. PDRI was established in 1956 by Dr. William Hutchinson, Sr., and originally named the Pacific Northwest Research Foundation.
