In 1958, the Kitsap County Science Fair (now Washington State Science and Engineering), sponsored by the Bremerton PTA and Olympic College, was begun. In the 1970’s, the fair was expanded to include Mason and Jefferson counties

In 1984 the Fair became the Western Washington Science and Engineering Fair and was opened to all students located within that geographical area. Also in the 1980’s. the decision was also made to affiliate with the International Science and Engineering Fair and was expanded to become the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair with students from all over the state participating.
