Dr. Jonas Salk reported results of the first 161 subjects inoculated with Polio vaccine

On Mar. 28, 1953, Dr. Jonas Salk and his team published a landmark article in the Journal of the American Medical Association reporting results of the first 161 subjects who had been inoculated.

Convinced that basic immunologic principles could be applied successfully in practice, he and the other University of Pittsburgh researchers inoculated themselves and their family members.
