On Nov. 15, 1907, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) held its first annual meeting at the Loomis Laboratory, Cornell University School of Medicine in New York City.

The AACR was founded on May 7 when eleven laboratory scientists and clinicians met at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. to discuss the rapidly emerging field of cancer research. James Ewing, MD was selected as the first AACR President. The group of 23 Charter Members and 10 Charter Associate Members included some of the most famous physicians of the era.

Today, the AACR accelerates progress toward the prevention and cure of cancer by promoting research, education, communication, and collaboration.
