fatal H5N6 avian flu case reported in China
On Jul. 25, 2024, the Government of Hong Kong reported that H5N6 avian flu had infected a 70-year-old female living in Anhui Province, who had visited a live poultry market before the onset of symptoms. She developed symptoms on June 17 and was admitted to a hospital for treatment on June 19. She passed away on July 8.
From 2014 to date, 92 human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) had been reported by Mainland health authorities. Travellers to the Mainland or other affected areas must avoid visiting wet markets, live poultry markets or farms. They should be alert to the presence of backyard poultry when visiting relatives and friends
