$100 million investment helped hospitals across Alberta upgrade operating rooms
On Mar. 5, 2020, a $100 million government investment was announced that helped hospitals across the province upgrade their operating rooms to provide thousands more surgeries to Albertans.
The investment will help Alberta Health System add over 17,000 surgeries this fiscal year to meet the four-year target. Once the renovations were complete and less complex surgeries were being performed in chartered surgical facilities, up to 30,000 additional surgeries were available to Albertans by 2023.
This capital funding is part of the government’s $500-million commitment in Budget 2020 to drive down wait times and provide all medically necessary surgeries within clinically appropriate times. Savings found through the AHS Review will support this initiative.
