In 2004, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle proposed the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (WID), a UW-Madison research enterprise, to strengthen the state’s position in science and technology.

The vision of WID advances frontiers of knowledge, accelerates development of solutions, and engages the State of Wisconsin through interdisciplinary research conducted by a vibrant community of diverse researchers.
