University of Iowa dental researcher George Andreasen invented the nickel and titanium-alloy archwire

In 1971, University of Iowa dental researcher George Andreasen invented the nickel and titanium-alloy archwire, a flexible orthodontic wire that becomes the industry standard. Dr Andreasen joined the University of Iowa Orthodontics department in 1963 and was chairman of the orthodontics department from 1965 to 1975.
