U.S. pandemic death toll higher than in 20 peer countries

On Nov. 18, 2022, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that the U.S. experienced high COVID-19 death rates and higher excess all-cause mortality compared with peer countries during 2020.

These findings highlight that the US continued to lag peer countries in COVID-19 and excess all-cause mortality, albeit with lower mortality in highly vaccinated states.
