In 1992, working in rice,ᅠProfessor Pamela Ronaldᅠdiscovered the Xa21 gene that is key to disease resistance in plants.ᅠ Xa21 confers resistance to diverse races of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae which causes blight of rice and other grasses.
