In 1902, the Wake Forest University (WFU) School of Medicine was founded. The North Carolina Baptist Hospital opened in 1923. Today, the WFU has grown into a large academic medical center with 900 faculty members, more than 100 buildings on 290 acres, and 900 licensed beds.
