The University of Oregon Medical School took over operation of Doernbecher

In 1928, The University of Oregon Medical School takes over operation of Doernbecher Hospital. Frank Doernbecher was a prominent businessman and furniture-maker in Portland in the early 1900’s.

When he passed away in 1921, he bequeathed $200,000 for the benefit of the state, and his children decided to use the money to build Oregon’s first children’s hospital at University of Oregon Medical School, now OHSU, on Marquam Hill.
