The UC San Diego Shiley Eye Center opened

In 1991, the UC San Diego Shiley Eye Center opened with support by Donald and Darlene Shiley and other donors. Today, the center is home to academic and basic research, innovative and unique surgical practices and patient treatment.

The UC San Diego Shiley Eye Center was renamed the UC San Diego Donald P. and Darlene V. Shiley Eye Institute in 2015, encompassing the Shiley Eye Center, the Anne F. and Abraham Ratner Children’s Eye Center, the Hamilton Glaucoma Center and the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Retina Center.
