In Mar. 18, 2014, the American Chemical Society awarded the Priestley Medal to Stephen J. Lippard “to recognize distinguished services to chemistry,” the Society’s most prestigious award.

Lippard’s research achievements include the preparation of synthetic models for metalloproteins; structural and mechanistic studies of iron-containing bacterial monooxygenases including soluble methane monooxygenase; and the invention of probes to elucidate the roles of mobile zinc and nitric oxide in biological signaling and disease.

During his 47 years as a principal investigator, Lippard has trained 111 Ph.D. students, more than 150 postdocs, and countless undergraduates. He has authored more than 830 papers and dozens of patents.
