The Priestley Medal was awarded to Bryce Crawford, Jr.

In 1982, The Priestley Medal was awarded to Bryce Crawford, Jr. by the American Chemical Society “to recognize distinguished services to chemistry,” the Society’s most prestigious award.

Crawford joined the chemistry department at the University of Minnesota in 1940 as an assistant professor. He became a full professor in 1946, chaired Minnesota’s chemistry department from 1955 to 1960, and was dean of its graduate school from 1960 to 1972. He retired in 1985.

Crawford a professor emeritus of physical chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Priestley Medalist, and former member of the ACS Board of Directors, died on Sept. 16, 2011.
