The Nevada Cancer Institute was founded
In 2002, the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI), founded in 2002 and located in Summerlin, was a non-profit organization and the official cancer institute for the state of Nevada from 2003-2013. In 2002 The Howard Hughes Corp. donated 6 acres of land for the Institute’s first building, and in 2003, ground was broken for NVCI’s first 142,000 s.f. state-of-the art treatment center.
In Feb. 2012, the Institute declared bankruptcy and became part of the UC San Diego Health System, and in 2013, Roseman University merged with the former Nevada Cancer Institute Foundation. The former NVCI Ralph and Betty Engelstad Research Building was acquired by Roseman and provided a home for former NVCI researchers.
