In 1994, the National Violence against Women Survey was created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Justice.
The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) Survey sampled both women and men and thus provides comparable data on women’s and men’s experiences with violent victimization. It was conducted between 1995-1996 to provide data on the prevalence of violence against women.
