The Cancer Research Initiative was established in South Carolina

On May 5, 2006, the Cancer Research Initiative was established in South Carolina, between MUSC, University of South Carolina, Clemson, and Spartanburg Regional Health Care System. It was the first such statewide program in the U.S.

In addition, the South Carolina Coordinated Cancer Initiative enabled the establishment of a statewide clinical trials network, a statewide tissue bank system and standardized care protocols.
