On Oct. 18, 2010, W. R. Grace received approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware of the Plan of Merger dated Sept. 13, 2010 whereby W. R. Grace purchased Synthetech.

The company developed and manufactured amino acid derivatives, specialty amino acids, peptide fragments and proprietary custom chiral intermediates primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. Synthetech, founded in 1981 and located in Albany was one of the oldest life science companies in Oregon.
