
Start of neurosurgical therapies for Parkinson’s disease began
In 1993, Patricia Limousin and Irene Martinez-Torres demonstrated the role of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease in humans.
Limousin also demonstrated that deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the STN may be effective in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
