Rabies vaccine (RabAvert by Chiron Behring) was licensed
On Oct. 20, 1997, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed Purified Chick Embryo Cell (PCEC, RabAvert®) vaccine against rabies in humans following clinical trials for safety and efficacy.
Rabies virus is an emerging zoonotic pathogen. In the U.S., the principal rabies hosts are wild carnivores and bats.
