Malaria Control in War Areas agency was established in Atlanta, Georgia
In 1942, the Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA) agency was established in Atlanta, Georgia, now known as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The MCWA mission was to limit the impact of malaria and other vector-borne diseases, including murine typhus, during World War II around military training bases in the southern U.S. and its territories, where malaria was still problematic.
