In 1959, Johnsonﾠ&ﾠJohnson acquired McNeil Laboratories giving the Company a significant presence in the growing field of pharmaceutical medicines. One McNeil product, TYLENOLﾮ (acetaminophen) elixir for children, is the first prescription aspirin-free pain reliever. A year later, it becomes available without a prescription and earns status as the pain reliever doctors and pediatricians recommend most.
