Federal Medicare rule required all long-term care facilities to offer vaccination for influenza and pneumococcal disease
On Oct. 7, 2005, a new Federal Medicare rule became effective that required all long-term care facilities to offer annual vaccination for influenza and one-time vaccination for pneumococcal disease to all residents as a condition of participation in Medicare.
About two million Americans, most age 65 years or older, live in long-term care facilities.
