Dr. William Hutchinson joined the Swedish Tumor Institute
In 1942, Dr. William Hutchinson began a 47 year career in Seattle, Washington when he joined the Swedish Tumor Institute. Hutchinson founded the Pacific Northwest Research Foundation (PNRF) in 1956, first located in a building generously provided by the Swedish Hospital on their campus.
He served as PNRF’s Founding President from 1956 to 1972. Dr. Hutchinson founded the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in 1972. Bone marrow transplantation was provided at Swedish during the “Hutch’”s first 24 years of operation.
Today, the “Hutch” is one of 72 comprehensive cancer centers nationwide, and is the technology foundation for more than three dozen life science companies in the state of Washington and across the U.S.
