Cook County Hospital opened doors to John Stroger Hospital of Cook County
In February 2002, the doors opened to the John Stroger Hospital of Cook County, a new state-of-the-art, 464-bed, glass and steel structure that provides medical services for the county’s indigent and replaced the former 13-building campus.
The Cook County Hospital in Chicago traces its origins to the Board of Commissioners who established the “Poor House” which provided free medical care to indigents.
