The CDC detected and investigated large salmonella and E Coli outbreaks across multiples states
On May 22, 2008, the New Mexico Dept. of Health notified the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of four people ill with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Saintpaul and 15 other persons with Salmonella infection whose isolates had not yet been characterized.
In the following weeks, cases of illness with the outbreak strain continued to be reported and the outbreak expanded to include 43 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
