On Nov. 21, 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the BA.2.86 variant had been reported in multiple countries, and the prevalence had been slowly increasing globally. However, based on the available limited evidence, the public health risk posed by BA.2.86 was currently evaluated as low at the global level.
