On Oct. 1, 2015, the Vaccine & Gene Therapy Institute of Florida (VGTI Florida) announced plans to turn over remaining assets to its two creditors, the City of Port St. Lucie (PSL) and the State of Florida.

The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute was established in 2001 by Oregon Health & Science University. Its research mission centers around viral infectious diseases and vaccine development.
