
UW Doctor performed SCCA’s first video-assisted thoracic surgery
In 2005, Dr. Michael Mulligan from the University of Washington performed Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s (SCCA) first video-assisted thoracic surgeries (VATS) on lung cancer patients.
(VATS) is a type of minimally invasive thoracic surgery that can remove parts of the diseased lung and lymph nodes.
