On Mar. 5, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a flock of commercial layer chickens in Cecil County, Maryland.

Samples from the flock were tested at the University of Delawareﾒs Allen Laboratory, part of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network, and confirmed at the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames, Iowa.
