University of Nebraska Medical Center Landmark study showed no benefit of drug to slow growth of aneurysms

On May 26, 2020, University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) researchers were part of a large national study that will change how physicians treat small abdominal aortic aneurysms. The researchers found doxycycline, a commonly used antibiotic, had no beneficial effect compared to a placebo in slowing growth of the aneurysms.

The major finding, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, was funded by a $10 million grant by the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Aging.
