University of Iowa college became founding member of the Association of American Medical Colleges

In 1876, the University of Iowa college became founding member of the Association of American Medical Colleges. In 1847, The State University of Iowa, now known as the University of Iowa, was founded in Iowa City.

The first faculty offered instruction at the university in March 1855 to students in the Old Mechanics Building, situated where Seashore Hall is now located.
