The University of Nevada was founded

In 1892, the University of Nevada, the state’s land-grant institution was founded in 1874 in Elko as a prep school and in 1885 was moved to its current location in Reno. Today the university enrolls over 15,000 students and offers strong programs in agricultural research, animal biotechnology, seismology, and mining-related engineering and natural science.
