The U.S. Surgeon General issued a report on reducing the health consequences of smoking
On Jan. 11, 1964 U.S. Surgeon General Luther Terry released the first government report that concluded smoking may be hazardous to one’s health.
The report also noted that there was suggestive evidence, if not definite proof, for a causative role of smoking in other illnesses such as emphysema, cardiovascular disease, and various types of cancer.
