In 1979, The Priestley Medal was awarded to Milton Harris by the American Chemical Society “to recognize distinguished services to chemistry,” the American Chemical Society’s most prestigious award. 

Harris, an American chemist, founded the Harris Research Laboratories, which later merged with Gillette. Harris served as chairman of the board of directors for the American Chemical Society from 1966 to 1972.
