The Luddite movement began near Nottingham, England
In 1811, organized bands of English handicraftsmen riot against the textile machinery displacing them, and the Luddite movement – led by a man they sometimes called King Ludd – begins near Nottingham, England.
The Luddites were opposed to technology ‘hurtful to Commonality’ or the common good, rather than the narrow interests of the few.
