In 1965, The Hutch Award’s was created in honor of the late Fred Hutchinson, the courageous and inspirational former Major League Baseball player and manager, who died of cancer one year earlier at the age of 45.
The Award has been bestowed annually and the honor is given to a Major Leaguer who demonstrates the honor, courage and dedication exemplified by former Major League player and manager Fred Hutchinson.
