In 1971, the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution was established is one of the world’s leading non-profit oceanographic research organizations dedicated to exploring the earth’s oceans, estuaries, and coastal regions.

HBOI is located on a 600 acre campus near Fort Pierce, Florida. The institution is involved in research and education in marine sciences, biological sciences, and marine biomedical sciences.
